Lakes Environmental Association (LEA) is a non-profit educational and environmental organization based in Bridgton. Founded in 1970 to initiate one of the first lake testing programs in Maine, LEA is a membership organization serving the Lakes Region of western Maine, including Sebago Lake and 40 other lakes in 12 towns.
LEA has developed a full spectrum of programs: lake testing and research, community and school education, technical assistance to municipal officials and landowners, invasive aquatic plant control, parkland development, and natural resource advocacy. We are a statewide leader in lake protection, with the most comprehensive water testing program of any organization in Maine.
Our most important resources are the relationships we have built with school districts, municipal governments, legislative committees, businesses, civic groups and citizens. Their support has allowed us to implement innovative educational programs, land use standards, open space preservation, milfoil control and cutting-edge water testing protocols.
